A new WI was formed in Old Headington in 1961 and the following year a request was made for a Scottish Country Dancing Class to be arranged. In the early days there were three ladies whose husbands were Cannons at Christchurch, so they had to leave early to be home before a curfew of 2130!

From about 1972 there were about sixteen members and we moved to Old Headington Village Hall. Margaret Evans led the class from 1994 and continued teaching the class until about 2007. Jessie McLachlan led the class from 2008 until about 2014, when she stopped dancing. Lesley McCourt wrote A Jig for Jessie for her.

In 2022, James Fairbairn, who teaches the class once a month, suggested that we hold a Charity Dance. We now hold a charity dance every year and an annual evening dance.

For all of these dances we have live music, and musicians so far have included Ian Muir (of Prestwick), Sandy Nixon, Ewan Galloway, Michael Taylor and Irvine McLevy.
