It is a month since my last blog, doesn't time fly now that we are able to get out and about?
Take the Floor has recently featured the Jim Johnstone band, Iain MacPhail and the most recent programme was a celebration of the Edinburgh Festival and featured the Matthew MacLennan Band and the Lomond Band. There was also an interview with Ian McCalman of the McCalmans, with clips of folk bands who have performed at the Festival over they years. This week's programme will feature Alastair Hunter and the Lorne Band, and next week will feature Ron Kerr.
For some of you, there have been some dance events to attend, an afternoon dance in Oxford, Day Schools coming up soon in Wing and London, and various classes starting soon.
But you might be one of my readers who don't live in Oxfordshire, don't dance, or are not ready to dance yet, so I thought I would continue my Scottish blog.
I will probably continue this on an occasional basis. Please use the comments or reply to me if you are enjoying these, or let me know if you want to be removed from the mailing list.
I know there are some Stanley Baxter fans out there, so here is some more from him.
This is his take on "Upstairs Downstairs"
If you haven't heard of Victor and Barry, then you weren't in Glasgow in the 1980s! They were very entertaining, and you will have heard of one half of the duo, Alan Cumming, who has since gone on to work in the USA and has been in various films and won a Tony award for his performance in "Cabaret". Here is a short clip of them in action.
And whether you like Victor and Barry, or not, you may well enjoy this, which is STV's Hogmanay Show for 1988. Victor and Barry feature in it, but there are a host of well-known entertainers, including Jean Redpath, a very young Aly Bain (playing with Boys of the Lough and also with Phil Cunningham, almost unrecognisable with long hair and a moustache! It also features Moray Hunter and Jack Docherty (as "Don and George"). Be warned, it is and hour and a half long, but there are some great entertainers. It might seem the wrong time of year to watch a New Year show, but it is worth a watch, and I know that some of you will be pleased to see that they finish with that classic song, which is practically never performed today, " A guid New Year to ane an' a'".
